I found a new hobby today, and realized a very simple truth

Funny enough, while with fever from my angina I found out something that I like, something that I might turn into a new hobby. What started out as a not very enjoyed but necessary trip to the local store for bottled water had turned into quite a thrilling experience, and that one is: driving (speeding) on narrow winding unpaved roads with dips at night. My little white swan got a peculiar orangish reddish tint from all the fine Arizona dust, but I'm sure she will forgive me this time. I had topped my tank prior to driving to nowhere, so I was able to utilize low gears for extended periods.

All the blind corners, skids, jumps, really deep dips and washes with steep slopes afterwards, guided trough without crash or even damage only tell me one thing - I am in control, I am in control because I am confident, I am confident in my driving abilities, or actually - I am confident in what I am capable of, what the car is capable of and what are her weak points. It would have been foolish to drive off-road, it would have been foolish to get into deeper sand.

As always, to reach the top, you must start from the beginning, and build over (and over again, and again and so much more). Practice is what makes perfect. But practice would be in vain without a constant seeking of the goal. So the goal should be set high enough yet realistic. I know my car, I know how un/trained I am, but I believe, reasonably in my skills. No wishful thinking, no jumping ahead, but I have to realize what am I, what I am capable of. The car is only an extension to me, it is me that does everything, takes the decisions and above all carries the responsibility and if I have crashed I would have been only me that failed. It is not about control, it is about me, it is about the confidence, the confidence which is a belief.

This actually made me think all about what it takes to believe, what it takes to achieve, and what it takes to back out and handover the results of all your hard labour to someone else - that will be in a post soon. On another note, the return of me(I) vs. third person observer is also something that has to make it a post soon.

I need to find some proper training to extend my abilities and closed courses/non-public roads for doing so on regular basis. Speeding 85 at 25 speed limit could be a great disaster if only for your driver records. I should also get myself a camera, to record all the fun, Contour's products seem to fit the need.

От няколко дена се опитвам да отида на кино на този въпросен филм.

Това което ми се случи два поредни дни в два различни града (Варна и София), а именно билети са изкупени за 3 прожекции напред показва че към филма има огромен интерес. И като наблюдавам хората - не е от деца.

Надявам се до след седмица да изгледам филмчето и да знам за какво е цялата тази навалица, каквото не помня да е имало за нито един филм в последните 15 години, дори и за пластелините не беше така.

Експерименти по квасене: Експеримент 1

От вчера замислям днес да квася мляко. Експеримент 1 започна в 14:35.

Като суровина използвах прясно мляко Верея 3%, 1 литър със срок на годност до 25.02.2009 съхранявано неотворено в хладилник и 300мл съхранявани в хладилник отворени със срок на годност до 19.02.2009. Използваната закваска е кисело мляко Верея екстра 3% съхранявано на стайна температура от 19 градуса през последните 24 часа със срок на годност до 25/02/2009(на опаковката му се твърди че е заквасено само с лактобацилус булгарикус.). Съда на затопляне и заквасване е тендждера от алпака със стъклен капак. Суровината беше затоплена до около 80 градуса и оставена постепенно да изстине до около 40. Количеството закваска беше 100мл. Съда е завит във вестник Капитал (цял брой) и поставен в хладилна чанта в 15:00. Резултатите ще бъдат проверени в 20ч.

Заб: да си купя термометър за течности и термометър с който да следя температурата в хладилната чанта.

Допълнение: Млякото стана около 18:30 и беше прибрано в хладилник до 19:00 - т.е. един час преди насрочения край на опита. Малко е редичко, но има характерен леко доловим кисел вкус, и доста суроватка. Прилича на спомените ми за кисело мляко в бурканче от бай-Тошово време, все пак е малко по-редичко. Липсва каймак, и на прясното преди да го сложа и на киселото, така че бих приел че суровината е с доста водно съдържание.

Заб: за следващия път да си набавя и стъклен съд.

След една прекарана нощ в хладилника е доста сгъстено.

Нова Година е; да е честита

35 минути след 00:00 - не мога да избера никой от злемтелския телефон, въпреки това набирам всеки, включително и моя телефон от стационарния, но пък там не съм заредил пари...

Обадих се на важните хора все пак.

От десетина минути е тихо, както и преди 00:00, направо стряскащо тихо. Иначе който можеше да снима луната и вероятно Венера трябва да е направил хубави снимки.

Днес един колега ме вбеси... много. Забавното е как котка още от 22 започна да заляга и да се кашира. Сега спим доволно.

Да е честита новата хилядо деветстотин ... 2009 година.

WizzAir са поредната некоректна фирма в България

Та абсурдистан отново показа че може да се случва какво ли не. Всъщност не какво ли не, а поредната фирма която си прави своеволия и не спазва условията които сама поставя.

Правя си резервация за wizz на 14.10 в 17 часа, като на резервацията ми пише следното:

Поради едни или други проблеми електронното банкиране на любимата ми банка не е превело парите и днес (20.10) решавам да преведа пак. Пoнеже се опасявах от ново забавяне реших да звънна и да си платя с кредитна карта. Звъня си аз, диктувам си номера и ми казват - "Ама господине, тази резервация е изтекла". Ба викам, как ще е изтекла, кога. 5 работни дни не са минали. - Ами така, изтекла е.

На аргументите ми че е направена на 14ти и 5 работни дни вклюват минимум 20ти (тъй като 18 и 19 са неработни) и че дори според нормалната бизнес практика работните дни се броят от слвадващия ден на поръчката (респективно резервацията) т.е. трябва да е до края на 21ви ключително ми отговориха - ами незнам, изтекла е. Направете си нова (разбирай условията вече съвсем не са същите).

Те така. Няма да пътувам с тях, незнам за качеството на полета но щом не спазват нещо толкова елемнтарно, то не бих им се доверил.

Linux browser issues

I've been banging my head against the walls these last two days. I even had some certificates of mine revoked. The issue I was facing is browsers under linux stopped opening pages. First Opera, after a while Firefox, Konqueror and most of the other I had. Except the console ones. I am coping here a message from opera forums which is extremely hard to find but describes the issue pretty thorough.

After making some changes in my home network (LAN) that required (surprisingly
to me) a change of DNS servers (and for my convenience, a change in the ip
address for the LAN's Internet gateway), opera would not work, yet konqueror
and mozilla worked fine (with the possible exception of ad blocking--I might
or might not confirm this sometime in the future).


After *too much* experimentation and investigation, I found that the cause of
the problem (from my point of view) is that the Mandriva Linux Control
Center, in my words, "mangled" the contents of the /etc/hosts file.
Konqueror and mozilla-firefox seemed to tolerate this mangling, whereas opera
did not.


I'm sending this to both a Mandriva list and an Opera list to make people
aware of the problem. IMHO, the root cause of the problem is Mandriva's
aggressive editing of the /etc/hosts file--their editing should be much less
intrusive. (As I am using Mandriva 2006, perhaps this has already been
addressed in later versions of Mandriva?)


There are other contributing factors to the problem (discussed below), but, as
stated above, I think the problem is the Mandriva Linux Control Center's
overly aggressive modification of the /etc/hosts file.


I have seen references to problems like this on various Opera resources (e.g.,
forums, mail lists)--it seems that at least in some cases, a resolution for
the problem was never found (or at least not documented). I don't know if
those problems also involved Mandriva or if other Linux distros have a
similar problem.


---++ More Description of the Problem

This is on my Mandriva2006 machine (s14).

After switching ISPs (and from dial-up to broadband ;-), and setting up a new
Internet gateway on my home network), I found that Opera no longer worked but
other browsers (konqueror, mozilla-firefox) did.

The symptom on Opera is that, for any page I attempted to load, I got an error
like:


Network problem

You tried to access the address http://www.google.com/,
which is currently unavailable. Please ...


---++ Diagnosis

By starting opera at the command line with the option -debugdns, I found that
neither IPv6 nor IPv4 lookup were working (i.e., it's a DNS problem):

After a fair amount of experimentation and investigation (googling, searching
Opera mail lists and knowledge base, and eventually finding, I found the
problem and the root cause.

---++ Root Cause

The root cause is this: When changing certain items in the Mandriva Linux
Control Center ("Alter miscellaneous internet settings" and "Reconfigure a
network interface" (maybe others??)), Mandriva edits the /etc/hosts file
rather aggressively. After that editing, apparently konqueror and
mozilla-firefox can deal with the file but Opera cannot. (keep reading)

Other relevant information: I have modified my /etc/hosts file to use Mike
Skallas' Ad Blocking Hosts file, which adds known domains of advertisers to
the hosts file with an IP of 127.0.0.1. This blocks the ads. (At least, it
did--some advertiser's have found ways around this which I won't mention here
in the faint hope that some advertisers will not discover those ways.)

Before Mandriva's aggressive (I was looking for another word--can't think of
it at the moment--words I've found with a thesaurus, but still not what I'm
looking for: obtrusive, intrusive, presumptuous) editing of the file, it has
over a thousand lines like this:

Something in the Mandriva (2006) scripts associated with the Mandriva Linux
Control Center rewrites those lines so that all of those adserver's domains
are on one extremely long line prefixed by 127.0.0.1, i.e., something like
this:

For whatever reason(s), this mangled /etc/hosts file does not cause a problem
for konqueror or mozilla-firefox (at least the versions shipped with Mandriva
2006), but does cause a problem for Opera. (I'm using Opera Version 8.5;
Build 1358; Platform Linux; System i686, 2.6.12-12mdk--I don't think this is
the version of Opera that came with Mandriva 2006, I vaguely recall
downloading and installing this later / separately, but seeing the
"2.6.12-12mdk" makes me wonder if my vague recollection is correct).

Note: Although konqueror and mozilla-firefox seem to tolerate that change
(i.e., they continue to load pages despite that change), I haven't done any
investigation to determine whether the file still achieves the goal of
blocking ads. (This is for a variety of reasons--I see ads in any case
because of the workarounds that advertisers have found, and, now, knowing
that this is the problem for Opera, I've switched the hosts file back to the
unmangled form and, at least atm, don't have time to experiment with the
mangled form.)

Aside: You could argue that the changes suggested by Mike Skallas are the root
cause of the problem and should not be done, but I see those as a practical
solution to an (originally) unanticipated problem (the excessive use of
advertising on the Internet).

---++ Workarounds

* Restore the original (not mangled) /etc/hosts file.

or

* In the future, make changes such as this directly to the relevant files
(/etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf). I.e., don't use the Mandriva Linux
Control Center to make DNS and similar changes (changing the gateway IP
address, by itself, caused the same mangling of the /etc/hosts file).

---++ Suggested (preferred, imho) fix

IMHO, I would recommend that Mandriva not edit the /etc/hosts file as
aggressively as they do in Mandriva 2006 (maybe this has already been
addressed in later versions of Mandriva?).

It might be nice if Opera could handle the "mangled" form of the hosts file,
as konqueror and mozilla-firefox seem able to do (but note that I have not
confirmed that konqueror and mozilla-firefox still block ads as intended by
the extensive modifications made to the /etc/hosts file based on Mike
Skallas' Ad Blocking Hosts webpage.

effect, while with konqueror they took effect immediately on changing
the /etc/resolv.conf file. (I didn't do nearly as much testing with
mozilla-firefox, as my primary browser is konqueror, and the first backup
(for pages konqueror can't handle) is Opera.)

* The man opera page does not reference startup options like -debugdns.
Note also that another startup option recommended somewhere in the opera
lists, "-pd" (perhaps requiring a filename parameter), did not work at all.

only one, remove the router address supersede domain-name-servers

Миналата седмица, в понеделник, около 9 сутринта. Телефона звъни а аз по това време както обикновено все още спя. Обажда се съдружничката от един много готин фитнес където тренирах известно време. Да ме пита как съм, защото при тях ставали промени и си попреслушвали хората :) Нищо лошо. Но на мен ми светва.
Предният ден след като съм водил спор за правилното хранене на котки, някой повдига темата за хуск, някакви обелки от жиловлек, и с моята критична природа започвам да ровя и стигам форума на въпросното фитнес студио. От там се зачитам за този хуск, и по някаква причина се заглеждам в програмите. От там попадам на сайта на собственика - Милко, човек с доста интересно компютърно минало и незнайно вече как попадам на личния му блог. Хайде някой да ме убеди че той не ги гледа посетителите.
